The Caregiver´s Chronicles: The begining

It is impossible for me to distance myself from my writing, just like dance is one of those things that helps me feel free, gives me hope, relieves me, brings me peace, and helps me face what has happened, what is happening, and what is yet to come. So, I begin these new chronicles not because I want to, but because I need to. For those of you who follow my chronicles, you know that these are the sixth ones. It all started with The Chronicles of This Virus is a Ruin then I continued with This Life is a Challenge, followed by Fragments of Nuricoco, then Nuricoco Without Filters, and the latest chronicles, Nuricoco of Yesterday. So, if you haven’t read any of them, I think it’s really important to catch up before starting these.
Like everything in my life, I start and finish things when I feel like it, because no one knows better than me when things need to be done. I’ve never been one of those people who likes being told what to do; I’m more of the bossy type. I’ve always been in control, I like being a leader, and I think I do it well (so far, I haven’t had many complaints, haha).
When I finished the last chronicles, I thought I didn’t have much more to say (well, I have a lot to say, but for whatever reason, at that moment, I didn’t feel like talking about past topics. Other times will come when I’ll feel like it). When I started my first chronicles, I thought everyone would read them, and I wrote them every day with love and hope that what I was sharing would reach many people, and that they would either enjoy it or learn something. But over time, and with my second and third chronicles, I began to realize that not many people were reading them, and in reality, I was writing for myself. With this feeling, I will continue writing these new chronicles, a private journal for me, but open to the world.
The idea behind these new chronicles is to share my daily life caring not just for my mother, but for my children, all on my own, as a single mother with few economic and family resources. I want to show you both the beautiful and the ugly, my good days and bad days, and tell you everything from the inside. I never thought this would be a specifically interesting topic, but on June 24th, I posted a video on my TikTok channel Nuricocome (yes, yes, I have a TikTok channel, I’m so modern, damn it) of my mother, where I asked her questions about who she was, who I was, where she lived, etc. To my surprise, that video went viral, and as of today, it has 2.6 million views and over 5000 comments.
Many of the comments are positive, talking about what a great daughter I am, how well I take care of her, how sad it is, telling me to take care of her a lot, and many people commenting that they have a mother, father, or grandparents in the same situation. Many people giving me encouragement, many commenting on how difficult it is, etc., etc. And some comments are not so positive (luckily TikTok hides them so you have to approve them, my daughter told me this—I thought until then that all of them were positive). These comments are from people who criticize me for interrogating my mother, for exposing her, and they say I’m a bad person and daughter.
The thing is, I realized I’m not the only one in this situation, but also that what I’m doing is really hard, I hadn’t even thought about it. I live and do things as they come to me. I don’t think if they’re happy, sad, easy, or complicated. I’ve always faced everything that comes my way, step by step. Since this viral video, I’ve decided to make more TikToks with my mother, showing our happiness, how much fun we have, and our daily life, whether good or bad. I’ve realized that she really enjoys it, it entertains her, she likes seeing herself with filters, and most importantly, she enjoys spending time with me.
So, today I welcome you to this new adventure, which I’m sure will be very fun, sad, frustrating, and everything that can come with a normal, ordinary life with not-so-normal and ordinary things.
